PAIN MANAGEMENT CARE

Fluoroscopy Pain Management

There are many medical procedures, especially minimally invasive treatments, where doctors need to see what’s occurring in the patient’s body, but don’t want to make significant incisions that can potentially cause damage to surrounding tissues.

Fluoroscopy is the solution. These are essentially live X-ray devices that allow doctors to see what’s going on inside the patient. They can be used for everything from diagnosing injuries and degenerative conditions to threading cardiovascular catheters into a patient’s heart to guiding facet and epidural injections.

Atlas Spine & Rehab uses fluoroscopy to administer pain management and regenerative therapy injections with pinpoint accuracy. In many cases your doctors know or suspect they know exactly which spinal nerve is the root cause of your neck pain or back pain. The goal of pain management injections is then to deliver the maximum amount of treatment to that specific nerve. A doctor skilled in the use of fluoroscopy during injections can ensure you get the best pain reduction results from your pain management injections.

LEVERAGING TECHNOLOGY TO RELIEVE PAIN

Is Fluoroscopy Safe?

Yes – modern fluoroscopy exposes patients to only minimal, completely safe levels of radiation. More importantly, undergoing fluoroscopy guided injections presents far fewer risks than the more invasive treatment alternatives like orthopedic surgery.

Other than temporary soreness at the injection site, patients experience very few side effects from pain management injections. Some patients are allergic to the high-contrast dyes that might be injected to help your pain management doctor better identify the injection site. It’s important that patients inform their doctor of any allergies they have before undergoing any type of pain management treatment.

Many patients can go back to work the same day they receive their fluoroscopy guided injection or the next day at the latest. Minimal discomfort is experienced by the patient after the fluoroscopic guided procedure. Compared with invasive surgeries where patients may require months of physical therapy and downtime, fluoroscopy guided pain management injections are a much more palatable solution for chronic and acute pain.
