Frequently Asked Questions

  • How many visits will I need to make to Atlas Spine & Rehab?

Many patients referred to our pain management specialists have already visited their chiropractor many times and are still experiencing severe chronic or acute pain. Patients typically require four to six visits to our pain management offices after their initial consultation. Facet joint injections, epidurals, trigger point injections and regenerative medicine injections are often administered in a series, with several weeks or months between each injection appointment.

  • How long will my appointment take?

Most appointments are relatively fast and will only take between 30 to 45 minutes. There’s often little to no downtime for patients after their appointment (beyond the limitation associated with the pain being treated).

  • Is there any special after-injection care?

You should try to keep your injection site dry for at least 12 hours after the procedure. You can use ice or take over-the-counter pain medications for the temporary soreness you may experience after your injection. The mild discomfort you experience after an injection should fade within 12 to 24 hours.

  • How long will it take to feel pain relief?

The local anesthetic (e.g. Lidocaine, Bupivacaine) that’s administered prior to the injection will provide immediate temporary pain relief, but that pain relief won’t last for more than 2 to 4 hours. The steroid in the injections can take 48 to 72 hours to reach full effectiveness, however the relief can last for months. After completing a series of injections patients may experience significant pain relief for three to six months. The length of pain relief depends on the severity of your chronic pain issues.

  • Are there risks involved with pain management injections?

As with nearly every medical procedure, there are some risks, but those risks are minor compared to invasive procedures like surgery. Rare side effects of injections include:

    • Dizziness
    • Nausea
    • Infection
    • Bleeding
    • Headaches

Some patients may also be allergic to the contrast dye used to facilitate fluoroscopy-guided injections. Make sure to tell your doctor about any allergies you may have before undergoing fluoroscopy or receiving any pain management injections.

  • Do you accept insurance?

No – we do not accept insurance. We do partner with personal injury attorneys to make sure their clients receive the treatments they need to manage their pain after a car accident, slip and fall or workplace injury. You may want to speak with your attorney about potential ways to finance your necessary pain management treatments.

  • What types of medical professionals do you partner with?

We have excellent working relationships with all types of professionals who frequently treat patients for a variety of musculoskeletal ailments as well as those who are integral to the treatment of accident injuries. As such, our patients are frequently referred to our pain management clinic by chiropractors, neurologist, personal injury attorneys and other physicians.

If you are a doctor, chiropractor or personal injury attorney who is looking for a pain management partner for your patients or clientele, we would be happy to assist.
